The Annual Mass for deceased members of the former 19th Infantry Battalion FCA will be celebrated on Sunday November 16th 2014 at 12 noon. The celebration will take place in The Cathedral Ballaghaderreen. All former members and friends of the 19th Bn are invited to attend. We would like a good turnout from the E Coy area.
Col Brendan McAndrew ADC to President Michael D. Higgins officially opened the 19th Bn. Association Visitors Centre at the Military Barracks, Boyle on Sunday 26th October at 6.30 p.m.
Col McAndrew was met at the entrance to the Barracks by the Association President, Jim Gormley and the Chairman Denis Flynn. He was accompanied by his wife. Col McAndrew then inspected an Honour Guard drawn from the Association and met the PDF staff from E Coy. He then cut the tape. The large crowd then proceeded to the Visitors Centre. All were very impressed with the layout and with what was on display.
After a meal in E Coy’s lecture hall presentations were made to Col McAndrew. Denis Flynn was the M.C. Jim Gormley spoke of the benefit of the FCA to the State and how it contributed to the development of the individual serving in it. Francie Geelan traced the history of the 19th Bn. and also the Association. He also referred to the Visitors Centre and to why it was established.
The president, Jim Gormley and Francie Geelan, Centre Sub-Committee then made presentations to Col McAndrew. One of the presentations was a record of his service with C Coy 19th Bn. The Col. is a native of Ballymote and many who knew him and his family were present. This concluded the formal business of the night-a night which was so friendly that we will remember it for a long time to come.
